Fear Of Public Speaking

Overcome Your Fear Of Public Speaking-7 Tips That Work

The fear of public speaking is one of the most common fears among us.  Some people make it seem easy but many of us become ill at the thought of it.  Some very prominent speakers have made mistakes and a lot of good speakers do.  The difference is what they do with the mistake.  Often they turn it into an opportunity and embrace it; they don’t lose sleep over it.

Anyone can improve their public speaking skills.   You can learn some basic skills that will have you sounding very confident and smart when you are called upon to speak or just have something to say.  You will need to change the way you think about it and learn how to prepare for it in order to be successful.

  1. People communicate with each other every day and so do you.  Think of speaking in front of a group like talking to your friend.
  2. Don’t worry about impressing people with your delivery, focus on your message.  Of course your delivery will be important but people are there to hear your message.  You are there to deliver information not win a popularity contest.
  3. If you should do something embarrassing don’t let it stop you, keep talking.  You could turn it into an opportunity to become more intimate with your audience.  Everyone knows your human and we have all made mistakes.  Your audience will not hold little mistakes against you.
  4. Focus on your message and how people will benefit from it.  Your audience wants to hear what you have to say but they probably won’t remember it word for word.  Most people will remember only a few of the key points when they leave.
  5. Make sure you are confident with what you want to say.  Study your speech and what you want your audience to learn from it.  When it is time to deliver you will have a better chance of getting back on track if you know what you are talking about.
  6. Practicing your speech out loud will help you find the words you want to use and speak more fluently.
  7. Make sure that all of your materials are organized and ready.  Be yourself and deliver your message your audience will appreciate it.

Don’t be afraid of what might happen, if anything does happen it won’t be as bad as you think.    Changing the way you feel about speaking in public will take time and practice but it is well worth the effort.
