Debilitating Fear

If You Suffer From Debilitating Fear Try These Tips To Overcome It

The ability to overcome your fears seems a simple matter to those that don’t suffer from forms of debilitating fear. To the person actually having the fears, it is quite another matter.

A debilitating fear is a fear so intense that it’s mere presence causes an inability to take action. This is the most serious type of fear and the most difficult to overcome.

Fear is a serious emotion and everything about it stresses your system, sometimes to the point of panic. The intensity of the fear and one’s ability to control themselves when confronted with it will determine IF they are able to confront it themselves or require the help of professionals.

Irrational fears can affect every aspect of your life, so it is important that something be done about it. Overcoming your fears opens up new opportunities for personal growth. These opportunities may involve personal goals, career opportunities or even relationships.

An effective way to overcome your fears is to evaluate yourself and how you view your fear. Take small steps toward overcoming these fears, but keep taking steps.

Motivation

The process of overcoming fears is often a difficult process that requires time. Staying motivated to break out of the fear is not always easy. One method that may help with motivation is to visualize the things that you will be able to do once you have overcome your fears.

 - Make a list of the benefits that you can see to making the changes.

 - Post your list in a spot that you will see it every day.

 - Remind yourself of one benefit that you are looking forward to each day.

Sometimes, fears are actually associated with some unpleasant experience. Other times they are based on worries about the future. Some fears were passed on from a parent.

No matter what the basis of the fear, work towards overcoming such fears by staying focused on the present. Make plans and work at realizing them. Take small, steady steps until you get there.

Slow and Steady

Small steps are usually less debilitating. If you find that this is not the case, re-examine what you have defined as a small step.

 - Try to determine if there is some other step that should go in front of this one.

 - Clear your mind and try again

 - Picture yourself getting past your fear

 - Remind yourself of the benefits of being free from fear

 - Stay focused on the next try. If the last attempt didn’t work, don’t dwell on it.

Overcoming fear is a learning process. You are learning how to work through the fear instead of being overcome by it. Everything that is worthwhile in life takes a while to learn. Be kind to yourself while you are learning this.

Don’t forget that this is work. Purposely and repeatedly take each small step until you are somewhat comfortable before progressing to the next small step is the least traumatic method.

Each successful step should provide you with a bit of confidence. Work on this step until you feel confident enough to try the next step, and then the next. Keep taking these steps until you make it to the other side.
